“Sitting here, I feel like the main character of a 70s film” …
In a candlelit place in the middle of Aarhus, you can escape to an inspiring place amidst the hustle and bustle of the city and our ever-busy minds: Café Mellemfolk – a café with principles, as they describe themselves on their own webpage.
Run by volunteers, this café ultimately works for a more sustainable and fairer world for everyone (really everyone!). They donate their profits to projects around the world such as empowering women in Zambia and supporting people in disaster zones and their subsequent reconstruction. Here´s Sophie de la Rosa, one of the volunteers in the place who talks about why she decided to be part of the staff of Café Mellemfolk.
Without going too far, it’s a warm place to feel part of something bigger, like a win-win situation for everyone around the globe.
While you enjoy the pleasant atmosphere, you can taste the great variety of high-quality and Fair Trade products. From their IPAs or beers (which are actually affordable!) to a delicious hummus served with freshly baked bread.
.And if that’s not enough, there’s a wide variety of board games to make the experience even more enjoyable.
As for us, the reporters in the making, we enjoyed an afternoon full of laughter and memories that we will take with us to the various corners of the world where we end up, still united by what was a warm afternoon at Café Mellemfolk.
You can find Café Melleford in Mejlgade 53, 1. sal, in the vibrant center of Aarhus. Also, you can follow this map:
